A Tribute to 75 Years of
Indian Independence
When the Government of India invited Refuge Events to design and deliver a flagship cultural celebration for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in Ahmedabad — the very city where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide campaign in March 2021 — the brief carried unmistakable weight: honour 75 years of Indian Independence with the dignity, scale and emotion the occasion demanded.
Anchored around the historic Sabarmati Ashram and extending across multiple heritage venues in Ahmedabad, the five-day programme brought together freedom-fighter families, schoolchildren, artists, government dignitaries and over 10,000 citizens. Every element — from the opening tricolour ceremony to the closing cultural gala — was crafted to embody the Mahotsav's five pillars: Freedom Struggle, Ideas@75, Achievements@75, Actions@75 and Resolves@75.
What We Were
Up Against
Historic Significance
Delivering an event befitting Ahmedabad's status as the birthplace of the Mahotsav — where the symbolic Dandi March was re-enacted in 2021 — without diluting its national gravitas.
Massive Public Footfall
Managing 10,000+ citizens across five days — including dignitaries, schoolchildren, freedom-fighter descendants and the general public — with seamless flow, safety and security.
Multi-Venue Coordination
Synchronising programming across Sabarmati Ashram, Riverfront, Gandhi Ashram precincts and partner heritage sites — each with its own logistical and protocol demands.
Government Protocol
Aligning every touchpoint with central and state government protocols, dignitary security requirements and the visual identity of the official AKAM campaign.
How Refuge Events
Made It Happen
We approached the Mahotsav with a clear thesis — the celebration had to feel both monumental and intimate, both deeply Indian and universally human. Our planning was anchored in the campaign's "Jan-Bhagidari" spirit, ensuring every citizen who walked through our gates felt like a participant, not just a spectator.
Strategic Discovery
Workshops with Ministry of Culture officials and the Gujarat State team to align programming with the five AKAM themes and define citizen-engagement outcomes for each of the five days.
Heritage Venue Curation
Designed a multi-venue experience anchored around Sabarmati Ashram and the Riverfront — preserving the sanctity of heritage spaces while introducing immersive installations honouring the freedom struggle.
Technical Production
Deployed a 30-metre LED wall, mapped projection on the Riverfront promenade, immersive sound design and live broadcast infrastructure carried by Doordarshan and digital partners.
Cultural Programming
Curated 40+ performances spanning classical dance, folk traditions of Gujarat, patriotic ensembles and a finale symphony — featuring artists from all 28 states under the "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" banner.
Flawless Execution
60-person on-ground team coordinating with state police, ASI, central protocol officers and 25+ vendors — delivering five days of programming with zero protocol breaches and zero safety incidents.
Captured Moments
Results That
Speak for Themselves
The Amrit Mahotsav Ahmedabad 2022 became one of the most attended civic-cultural events of the year — earning recognition from the Ministry of Culture and setting a new benchmark for nation-building celebrations in India.
Refuge Events understood that this wasn't just an event — it was a tribute to 75 years of our nation's journey. The team delivered every detail with the dignity, precision and emotion the occasion demanded. A truly memorable celebration of India@75.
